SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Vice President of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter announced today that the club has selected 16 players on the second and final day of the 2026 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Seattle selected 20 total players in the 2026 Draft.
The Mariners 20 total selections included 12 position players: third basemen Ace Reese, Trevor Lucas, Henry Ford, and Connor Shouse, outfielders Jake Brown, Hayden Yost, Charlie Sutherland, Dominic Santarelli, and Michael Petite, shortstop Ryan Wynn, second baseman Eric Jeon, and catcher Mason Eckelman. In addition, Seattle selected 7 right-handed pitchers: Nathan Taylor, Drew Whalen, Wyatt Queen, Connor Marshburn, Anthony Treto, Chris Diaz, Matthew Matthijs and 1 left-handed pitcher: Chris Torres.
Yesterday, Seattle selected 3B Ace Reese from Mississippi State University with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 Draft. They followed the selection of Reese with OF Jake Brown (Louisiana State University) in the 2nd round (65th overall), RHP Nathan Taylor (University of Cincinnati) in the 3rd round (101st overall) and 3B Trevor Lucas (University of North Carolina at Wilmington) in the 4th round (129th overall).
Below is a list of Seattle's selections on Day 2 of the 2026 MLB Draft:
5th round (162nd overall) -- OF Hayden Yost (University of Florida)
Yost, 21, batted .262 (28x107) with 28 runs, 5 doubles, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 12 walks, and 3 stolen bases while owning a .369 OBP and a .589 slugging percentage during his junior season at the University of Florida in 2026. His .958 OPS, 10 home runs, and .589 SLG in his last season at UF all marked career-highs. Yost crushed 3 home runs in the final game of the 2026 regular season on May 16, tied for the 2nd most hit in a single game in the SEC in 2026. His 13 total bases in the contest were also tied for 3rd most in a single game during the season.
Over 3 seasons at Florida, Yost posted a .264 (96x363) batting average, recording 77 runs, 23 doubles, 14 home runs, 65 RBI, 52 walks, 21 stolen bases, a .381 OBP and a .444 SLG in the process. He earned 2025 CSC Academic All-District honors and was named SEC Player of the Week on May 5, 2025, after going 5-for-10 with a .500/.615/1.100 slash line, 2 home runs, 6 runs scored, 8 RBI and 2 stolen bases on 2 attempts over a 3-game weekend series during his sophomore season.
Yost graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration in the spring. He is originally from Tampa, Florida and attended Sickles High School (Tampa, FL) as a four-year letterwinner. Coming out of high school, he was the 16th ranked outfielder and 83rd overall player in Florida in addition to being listed as the 99th outfielder in the country by Perfect Game in 2023.
6th round (191st overall) -- 3B Henry Ford (University of Tennessee)
Ford, 21, batted .293 (71x242) with 51 runs, 15 doubles, 20 home runs, 57 RBI, 27 walks, and 3 stolen bases during his junior season at the University of Tennessee in 2026. His 20 home runs, 57 RBI, and .603 SLG led the team in 2026. He earned 2026 Perfect Game Preseason First Team All-American honors.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound right-handed batter, played his first two season of collegiate ball at Virginia before transferring to Tennessee, posting a combined .329 (231x702) batting average over the 3 seasons with 51 runs, 15 doubles, 20 home runs, 57 RBI, 27 walks, 3 stolen bases, a .360 OBP and a .603 SLG. Ford was named 2025 All-ACC Second Team during his sophomore year and D1Baseball Freshman All-American and NCBWA Freshman All-American during in his first collegiate season at UVA. Ford is ranked as the 148th overall draft prospect by MLB Pipeline.
Ford is from Charlottesville, Virginia and attended Baylor High School (TN). Coming out of high school, he was ranked the 19th overall prospect in Virginia and 4th shortstop by Perfect Game.
7th round (220th overall) -- SS Ryan Wynn (University of Georgia)
Wynn, 21, hit .323 (42x130) with 32 runs, 14 doubles, 9 home runs, 37 RBI, 4 stolen bases and 9 walks, reaching base at a .377 clip while slugging .638 (1.015 OPS) across 50 games as a junior at the University of Georgia in 2026. He held a .948 fielding percentage in 96 total chances, helping lead the Bulldogs to the College World Series and an SEC regular season title.
Across 3 collegiate seasons between Wofford College (2024-25) and Georgia (2026), he combined for a .325 batting average (127x391), 92 runs, 34 doubles, 3 triples, 14 home runs, 88 RBI, 20 stolen bases, 43 walks, a .405 on-base percentage, .535 slugging percentage and .939 career OPS in 129 games. Wynn hit for the cycle in 2025 for the Wofford Terriers, becoming the third ever player to do so in school history.
The 6-foot, 185-pound right-handed bat hails from Douglasville, Georgia. He attended Chapel Hill High School, earning First-Team All-Region and All-State Honorable Mention honors in baseball.
8th round (250th overall) -- C Mason Eckelman (Ohio State University)
Eckelman, 21, recorded a .304 (59x194) batting average with 42 runs, 15 doubles, 4 triples, 8 homers, 47 RBI, 32 walks, and 2 stolen bases while reaching base at a .304 clip and slugging .546 during his junior season at Ohio State University in 2026. His 4 triples were the 2nd most hit in the Big 10 Conference over the 2026 season. The Ohio Native was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team for 2026 and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in back-to-back seasons for 2025 and 2026.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound catcher combined for a .283 (115x407) batting average over his 3 seasons at Ohio State, amassing 77 runs, 25 doubles, 6 triples, 13 home runs, 81 RBI, 62 walks, and 3 stolen bases during his collegiate career.
Eckelman is from Broadview Heights, Ohio and attended Walsh Jesuit High School (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) as a four-year letterwinner. In his final season at Walsh Jesuit, he helped lead his team to the 2024 OHSAA Division II regional baseball title. He earned the Johnny Bench Award for the top high school baseball catcher in Ohio in 2023.
9th round (280th overall) -- RHP Drew Whalen (Auburn University)
Whalen, 21, went 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA (3 ER, 11.0 IP) and 11 strikeouts in 6 relief appearances as a junior this season at Auburn University. He was limited in appearances due to injury.
Across 3 collegiate seasons between Western Kentucky (2024-25) and Auburn (2026), he went 12-6 with a career 4.34 ERA (56 ER, 128.2 IP), 126 strikeouts, 56 walks and an 8.8 strikeout-per-nine innings rate across 38 appearances (24 starts). As a sophomore at Western Kentucky, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound righty recorded 90 strikeouts over 81.2 innings in 2025 and was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and ABCA First Team All-Midwest Region.
Whalen is originally from Nashville, Tennessee and attended Franklin High School. In 2023, he was ranked as the 6th-best right-handed pitcher out of Tennessee by Perfect Game.
10th round (310th overall) -- 2B Eric Jeon (Stanford University)
Jeon, 21, hit .323 (52x161) with 34 runs, 8 doubles, 9 home runs, 28 RBI, 3 stolen bases, and 26 walks, reaching base at a .425 clip while slugging .540 (.965 OPS) across 46 games as a junior at Stanford University this season. He recorded a 17-game on-base streak during the season and hit safely in 23 of his last 29 games.
Across 3 collegiate seasons between Columbia University (2024-25) and Stanford (2026), he hit .321 (102x318) with 62 runs, 21 doubles, 2 triples, 14 home runs, 62 RBI, 5 stolen bases and 43 walks, reaching base at a .409 clip while slugging .531 (.940 OPS) in 89 games. Jeon was named Columbia’s Rookie of the Year in 2024.
The 5-10, 195-pound right-handed bat hails from Fullerton, CA and attended La Mirada High School. Jeon was a four-year letterman in baseball and led his high school to three CIF Tournament appearances.
11th round (340th overall) -- RHP Wyatt Queen (Oregon State University)
Queen, 21, went 1-2 with a 2.49 ERA (13 ER, 47.0 IP), 2 saves and 78 strikeouts to 18 walks across 21 appearances (1 start) as a junior at Oregon State University in 2026. His 14.94 strikeouts-per-nine innings last spring ranked 2nd-best in the nation (min. 40 IP).
Across two seasons with the Beavers, he went 4-3 with a combined 2.85 ERA (30 ER, 94.2 IP), 4 saves, 139 strikeouts, 37 walks and a 1.183 WHIP in 42 appearances (6 starts). Prior to his time at Oregon State, he made 11 appearances (all starts) as a freshman at Everett Community College in 2024, going 9-1 with a 0.94 ERA and 65 strikeouts while holding opponents to a 0.91 WHIP.
The 6-foot-2 right-hander is a Maryville, WA native and graduated from Lake Stevens High School where he was named an All-State selection as a senior after going 5-1 with a 0.74 ERA and 64 strikeouts across 37.2 innings.
12th round (370th overall) -- RHP Connor Marshburn (University of North Carolina Wilmington)
Marshburn, 21, went 4-6 with a 4.57 ERA (41 ER, 80.2 IP), 81 strikeouts and 28 walks over 15 starts during his junior year at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2026. His 81 strikeouts ranked 7th in the Coastal Athletic Association in 2026 and his ERA ranked 9th. The right-hander was named Pitcher of the Week twice during the season (March 3 and April 27).
Over 3 seasons at UNC Wilmington, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound right-hander went 11-9 with a 4.29 ERA (85 ER, 178.1 IP), 180 strikeouts and 85 walks over 49 appearances (30 starts). Marshburn started all 30 games that he appeared in through his last 2 seasons at UNC Wilmington. He made his debut as a starter as a sophomore, finishing the season with 7 starts of 6.0+ innings and recording 5 scoreless outings over his 15 starts.
Marshburn hails from Cary, North Carolina and played his senior season at Pro 5 Academy (Raleigh, NC) after pitching at Panther Creek High School (Cary, NC) for 3 seasons. He was ranked as the 10th-best right-handed pitcher out of North Carolina during his senior year.
13th round (400th overall) -- RHP Anthony Treto (Tarleton State)
Treto, 21, went 3-0 with a 3.10 ERA (18 ER, 52.1 IP) with 68 strikeouts to 17 walks for a 4.00 strikeout-to-walk rate as a junior at Tarleton State in 2026. Prior to his 2026 season at Tarleton State, the right-hander spent 2 seasons at Barton Community College, making 26 total appearances (15 starts) for a 6.73 ERA with 82 strikeouts and 37 walks.
Treto is a Fort Lupton, Colorado native and graduated from Brighton High School where he was a 2-year letterwinner and an All-State Honorable Mention.
14th round (430th overall) -- RHP Chris Diaz (Florida Gulf Coast University)
Diaz, 21, went 5-2 with a 3.98 ERA (32 ER, 72.1 IP) and 74 strikeouts to 26 walks across 15 starts this season as a junior at Florida Gulf Coast University. He earned Second-Team All-ASUN recognition and threw a 9-inning complete game shutout on April 18 at Queens, allowing just 3 hits with 7 strikeouts.
Across three collegiate seasons, splitting time between the University of Miami (2024) and FGCU (2025-26), he went 12-6 with a 4.56 ERA (84 ER, 165.2 IP) and 175 strikeouts to 52 walks allowed in 40 appearances (29 starts).
He threw 3 complete games, including 2 complete game shutouts during his time at FGCU. He also recorded 3 career games of 10+ strikeouts, including a career-high 11 strikeouts across 8.0 innings in his first career complete game shutout in 2025.
The 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher is a Miami, Florida native and graduated from Miami Christian High School where he was a four-year letterwinner. Diaz served as captain in his final two seasons of high school and led Miami Christian to a state championship in 2022.
15th round (460th overall) -- OF Charlie Sutherland (University of Minnesota)
Sutherland, 21, hit .325 (63x194) with 47 runs, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 11 home runs, 56 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 29 walks, reaching base at a .434 clip while slugging .572 (1.006 OPS) across 53 games as a junior at the University of Minnesota. He earned Third-Team All-Big Ten recognition and led the team in hits and RBIs.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound outfielder played 3 seasons at the University of Minnesota, batting for a .305 (120x394) average with 82 runs, 23 doubles, 3 triples, 18 home runs, 90 RBI, 55 walks, and 21 stolen bases. He reached base at a .413 clip and slugged .515 across his college career. In addition, he is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2024-25) and was named CSC Academic All-American First Team in 2026 while majoring in neuroscience.
Sutherland is a Minnesota native originally from Duluth. He attended Duluth East High School where he was a three-year starter and two-year captain for the baseball team. He was ranked as the 6th-best overall high school player in Minnesota by Perfect Game during his senior year.
16th round (490th overall) -- LHP Chris Torres (University of South Carolina Upstate)
Torres, 21, went 5-4 with a 5.28 ERA (45 ER, 76.2 IP) and 71 strikeouts to 32 walks across 18 appearances (16 starts) as a junior at University of South Carolina Upstate in 2026. His 71 strikeouts recorded during the season led the team.
The 6-foot, 195-pound left-hander transferred to USC Upstate following his freshman season at Eastern Connecticut State. Over 3 combined seasons between Eastern Connecticut (2024) and USC Upstate (2025-26), Torres went 15-13 with a 5.09 ERA (114 ER, 201.2 IP) and 191 strikeouts and 74 walks over 48 appearances (38 starts). During his first season at USC Upstate in 2025, the lefty was named Second Team All-Big South after recording the 2nd most strikeouts on the team (78) and earning Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week on 3 occasions during the season.
Torres is from West Springfield, MA and attended West Springfield High School. He recorded a school-record 300+ strikeouts in high school while competing in baseball, hockey, and soccer for the Terriers.
17th round (520th overall) -- RHP Matthew Matthijs (University of North Carolina)
Matthijs, 22, went 3-0 with a 6.39 ERA (22 ER, 31.0 IP) with 39 strikeouts and 13 walks for a 11.3 strikeouts-per-9 innings over 27 appearances as a senior at the University of North Carolina in 2026.
Across 4 seasons at UNC, the 6-foot-2, right-handed pitcher combined for a 16-6 record, 4.48 ERA (64 ER, 128.2 IP), 153 strikeouts and 57 walks allowed over 103 relief appearances. He maintained a 10.7 strikeouts-per-nine innings across his collegiate career and was named a Third Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 2024. His 12 wins as a sophomore in 2024 led the ACC and ranked 2nd among all NCAA Division 1 pitchers.
The righty hails from Greenville, North Carolina and was a four-year letterman at D.H. Conley High School. Matthijs was named the 2022 North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 4A Player of the Year in his final season of high school. The Greenville native represented his hometown, playing for the Southeast Region in the 2017 Little League World Series, pitching 2.2 innings in the first combined perfect game in LLWS history. He closed out his high school career ranked as the 9th-best right-handed pitcher and ranked 18th overall out of North Carolina by Perfect Game in 2022.
18th round (550th overall) -- OF Dominic Santarelli (St. Joseph High School, Wisconsin)
Santarelli, 18, hit .460 (23x50) with 29 runs, 15 RBI, 4 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 15 RBI and 12 walks, reaching base at a .597 clip across 25 games as a senior at St. Joseph High School (Kenosha, WI). The 6-foot-2, 230-pound outfielder is committed to play baseball at Louisiana State University and was named 2026 Gatorade Wisconsin Baseball Player of the Year. He is ranked as the 129th overall prospect by MLB Pipeline.
Across four varsity seasons, the left-handed hitter combined for a .438 batting average (121x276), 142 runs, 32 doubles, 18 triples, 16 home runs, 110 RBI and a .586 career on-base percentage across 106 games. He led his high school to the State Division 3 Championship in 2025 and has impressed on a national stage, winning MVP honors at the MLB High School All-American Game. He has also competed in the Home Run Derby and Under Armour Next All-America Game.
19th round (580th overall) -- OF Michael Petite (Virginia Commonwealth University)
Petite, 22, batted .274 (63x230) with 66 runs, 15 doubles, 3 triples, 14 home runs, 43 RBI, 45 walks and 22 stolen bases during his junior season at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2026. His 14 home runs tied for 8th-most in a single-season in VCU history.
Prior to his time at VCU, he spent two seasons at Miami Dade Community College where he was named first-team DI All-FCSAA and first-team All-Citrus Conference by FCSAA as a sophomore in 2025.
Petite is originally from Melbourne, FL, where he attended Melbourne High School and was a four-year letter winner. He was ranked as the 10th-best outfielder in Florida by Perfect Game in 2023.
20th round (610th overall) -- 3B Connor Shouse (Texas Tech University)
Shouse, 21, hit .353 (76x215) with 55 runs, 18 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs, 66 RBI, 16 walks and 6 stolen bases, reaching base at a .431 clip and slugging .595 for a 1.026 OPS across 54 games as a sophomore at Texas Tech in 2026. In addition, he made 11 appearances (1 start) on the mound this spring, going 1-0 with 3 saves while compiling a 5.87 ERA (10 ER, 15.1 IP) and 16 strikeouts.
The third baseman started his college career at Georgia Tech (2025), where he hit .265 (9x34) with 15 runs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 8 RBI, 3 stolen bases and 6 walks, reaching base at a .432 clip while slugging .559 for a .991 OPS across 26 games in 2025 with the Yellow Jackets.
Shouse hails from Jasper, GA and attended Pickens County High School where he played varsity baseball all four years. The shortstop helped lead the Pickens to back-to-back Region 7 3A titles in 2023 and 2024 and ended his career as the program record holder in runs scored (133), hits (144) and home runs (14). Coming out of high school, he ranked as the 22nd-best shortstop and the 83rd overall prospect in baseball by Perfect Game in 2024, as well as 9th overall out of the state of Georgia.
