Phanatic About Reading FAQs
Is there a cost to participate in the program?
The Phanatic About Reading program, presented by Xfinity, is a free program open to educators of classrooms grades Pre-K through 8, in PA, NJ, and DE.
When does the program begin and end?
The program opened for registration at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. Incentives are distributed to registrants on a rolling basis while supplies last or until the school year concludes. The last date to enter the sweepstakes for the chance to win a Phanatic visit is April 5, 2020.
Can I only register my classroom or am I able to register the entire school?
Educators can choose to register their classroom or the entire school. On the registration form, you will be asked to provide the number of students and classrooms you are registering to ensure all the students and classrooms receive the incentives. If registering the entire school, you will be the point of contact for the program. This means you will be sent the incentives, end of the year completion certificates, and newsletter.
Where can I register for the program?
You can register at www.phillies.com/phanaticreading.
Once I register, what happens next?
An incentives kit will be mailed to you upon registration. Once you receive this kit, distribute the items and encourage the students to read daily! As we approach the end of the school year, you will receive completion certificates for the number of students that were registered at the start of the program.
What will I find in my incentives package?
Inside your package, you will find the following:
- A pencil for each student who is registered
- A copy of a Phanatic book and wall cling for each classroom registered
- A folder with a welcome letter, a parent letter and reading log in both English and Spanish
If you prefer a digital copy of the literature, please visit the Welcome page.
Is the reading log mandatory and do the students have to turn it back in?
No, the log is not mandatory for students in order to be part of the program. Some teachers have students utilize the log and turn it in and use that information for when they enter one of the three contests offered with the program. The log is sent as a tool for the students to track their reading.
Do I have to track and submit my student's minutes or complete online evaluation forms?
No, there is no reporting process for this program. No evaluation form is required to participate in the program. The reading log that we include with your incentives is optional and can be used as an aid for the children as they read. The only forms you will submit are entries into one of our contests.
How do I get the Phanatic to visit my school?
The Phanatic's literacy tour is made up of a few stops in January through May. In order to be selected, you must submit an entry into the Phanatic Literacy Visit Contest, stating why you believe your class and school deserve a visit. The entries are then judged and the most deserving classrooms are selected. In order to be selected as one of the stops, you must enter the Phanatic About Reading Presented by Xfinity Assembly Contest by April 5, 2020.
When do you pick the winners for the contests?
The Phanatic About Reading Presented by Xfinity Assembly Contest winners are picked on the following dates:
- January 17, 2020
- January 29, 2020
- March 2, 2020
- April 6, 2020
The contest is on a rolling basis and all submissions entered prior to 11:59 p.m. on the judging date are eligible.
The Phanatic About Reading Presented by Xfinity All-Star Reader Most Improved and All-Star Reader Most Outstanding winners will be selected on or about May 11, 2020. All entries for these contests must be submitted by May 8, 2020.
Please note that all winners for all three contests will be notified.
I am a parent of a student enrolled in the program. What is my roll?
Parent involvement is not required for this program, however, some children require assistance with reading. If your child is unable to read, we ask that they are read to for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Please note that your child's teacher will have received a log to help your student track their progress.
