Segura OK, picks up 3 hits day after scary HBP

April 28th, 2019

PHILADELPHIA -- is a lucky dude.

Segura has been hit on the head with pitches at least four times in his big league career. The latest came Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park, where Marlins right-hander hit him on the helmet with a 90-mph fastball. Segura suffered no concussion based on a SCAT exam, and he returned to the lineup for Sunday’s series finale.

Segura had three of the Phillies' four hits in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Marlins, going 3-for-4 with an RBI triple and a pair of runs.

“Every year I get hit on the head,” Segura said before the game.

The Rockies’ hit Segura on the helmet with an 80-mph changeup during a game at Miller Park on April 7, 2015, when Segura played for the Brewers. The ball deflected off Segura’s nose, but he remained in the game. The Cubs’ hit him on the helmet with a 95-mph fastball during a game at Wrigley Field on May 3, 2015. The Pirates’ hit Segura on the helmet with a 96-mph fastball during a game at PNC Park on May 24, 2016, when Segura played for the D-backs.

“I guess it’s bad luck,” Segura said. “It didn’t feel bad [Saturday]. But when you get hit on the head they don’t take that chance and keep you in the game. They take you out. I’m fine.”

Nola, Phillies bowl for kids

Phillies ace Aaron Nola and his teammates bowled Sunday night at South Bowl in Philadelphia to support Philadelphia Futures’ students.

More than 500 guests were expected at “Get in the Game,” a bowling tournament that featured the Phillies and local TV and radio media. The event included a raffle and live auction.

“I am proud to join my teammates and Philadelphia Futures in helping to ensure that our city’s next generation of leaders have the best opportunity to ‘Get in the Game’ and succeed in college,” Nola said in a statement.

"Get in the Game” has raised more than $2 million over the past 18 years to support the college aspirations of Philadelphia’s low-income, first-generation-to-college students.

“Philadelphia Futures is proud to partner with Aaron Nola as the player host of Get in the Game this year, along with the entire Phillies organization,” Philadelphia Futures executive director Sara Woods said. “We are grateful to Aaron for helping us to transform the lives of our students, and to the Phillies for their continued partnership and support.”
