Phillies Add Three to 40-Man Roster

The Phillies have selected the contracts of three players to the 40-man roster, the club announced today.

The Phillies have selected the contracts of the following three players to the 40-man roster, the club announced today:
Arquímedes Gamboa, SS - The 21-year-old switch-hitter played for single-A Clearwater in 2018, batting .214 with 20 extra-base hits, 37 RBI and 53 walks. Defensively, Gamboa led all Florida State League shortstops with a .971 fielding percentage and his 46 double plays turned were tied for third-most. He was selected as the starting shortstop for the North Team in the FSL All-Star Game. Prior to the 2018 season, the Venezuela native was named the 92nd-best prospect in baseball by Baseball Prospectus. He was originally signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent in July 2014.
Édgar García, RHP - Garcia, 22, split the 2018 season between double-A Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley, combining to go 7-3 with a 3.64 ERA, eight saves and a 1.18 WHIP in 52 games, all in relief. He struck out 72 batters in 64.1 innings of work, held opponents to a .206 batting average and was named to the Eastern League midseason All-Star team. García was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent from his native Dominican Republic in May 2014.
Adonis Medina, RHP - Medina, 21, was named the fourth-best prospect in the Phillies system, and 84th-best in baseball, by Baseball America prior to last season. Pitching for Clearwater in 2018, the righthander went 10-4 with a 4.12 ERA in 22 games (21 starts), striking out 123 batters in 111.1 innings. He posted a 3.54 ERA from May through the end of the season and was selected to pitch for the World Team in the All-Star Futures Game in July. A native of the Dominican Republic, Medina was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent in May 2014.
With the additions of Gamboa, García and Medina, the Phillies 40-man roster currently stands at 38 players.
