Astros Select Springer From Triple A Oklahoma City

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have made several roster moves following last night's game, including the selection of outfielder George Springer to the Major League roster. The Astros also reinstated right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman from the Bereavement List and he will make his scheduled start tomorrow vs. Kansas City. To make room for Springer and Feldman on the active roster, the Astros optioned outfielder Robbie Grossman to Triple A Oklahoma City and designated right-handed pitcher Lucas Harrell for assignment. The announcements were made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Springer, 24, was hitting .353 (18x51) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs, nine RBI, four stolen bases and a 1.106 OPS in 13 games at Triple A OKC this season. Springer has posted multi-hit games in five of his last eight games and has homered in each of his last two contests, including a grand slam last night in a RedHawks 11-9 win at Colorado Springs.

Ranked as the Astros No. 3 prospect by MLB.com, Springer had an impressive 2013 season, combining to hit .303 (149x492) with 27 doubles, 37 home runs, 108 RBI and 45 stolen bases in 135 games with OKC (62g) and Double A Corpus Christi (73g). He was named the Astros Minor League Player of the Year and the Double A Texas League Player of the Year. Springer will be in uniform for tonight's ballgame.

Feldman, 31, was placed on the Bereavement List on Saturday following the loss of his father. He will take his normal turn in the rotation and start tomorrow vs. Kansas City. Through three starts this season, Feldman leads the Major Leagues in WAR (1.4), while going 2-0 with a 0.44 ERA (1ER/20.2IP). He also leads the Majors in opponent's batting average (.106) and ranks second in ERA.

Grossman, 24, had started all 14 games for the Astros this season, including 11 starts in left field, two in center field and one in right field. The switch-hitting outfielder was officially optioned to Triple A OKC following last night's game.

Harrell, 28, made three starts for Houston this season, including a start last night vs. Kansas City (4ER/5IP). He's pitched in each of the last four seasons for Houston (2011-14), making 77 appearances, including 59 starts. Harrell owns a career 18-33 record and a 4.84 ERA (216ER/401.2IP) over parts of five Major League seasons.

With the addition of Springer and the removal of Harrell, the Astros 40-man roster remains at 39 players.
