Silver for Goldy: Slugger adds to honors
MVP candidate adds first hitting trophy to Hank Aaron Award, Gold Glove
Paul Goldschmidt has yet another award to add to his growing trophy-case collection.
Arizona's celebrated first baseman, already named the winner of the Hank Aaron Award as the top hitter in the National League and as a Gold Glove recipient, was revealed as the winner of a Silver Slugger Award on MLB Network on Wednesday.
It's Goldschmidt's first silver bat, an annual honor for the best offensive player at each position in each league, as voted on by coaches and managers.
Goldschmidt, also one of three finalists next to Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen and St. Louis' Yadier Molina for the NL Most Valuable Player Award, destroyed league pitching this year, leading the NL in home runs (36) and RBIs (125).
Along the way, the 26-year-old earned his first All-Star nod, ultimately finishing with a .302 average and league-leading .551 slugging percentage. His on-base percentage wasn't too shabby either, at .401.
