D-backs deal reliever Reed to Mets

PHOENIX -- The D-backs have dealt reliever Addison Reed to the Mets in exchange for Minor League right-handers Matt Koch and Miller Diaz.

Koch, 24, went 4-8 with a 3.46 ERA in 35 games (including eight starts) with Double-A Binghamton this season. Diaz, 23, was 5-12 with a 4.71 ERA in 23 games (including 21 starts) with Class A with St. Lucie.

"He did great," said manager Chip Hale. "Like we said when we sent him down to Reno, 'For a guy that has so many saves in the Major Leagues, he understood his situation. He went down there and took care of business.' He came back and pitched beautifully for us. We hope that he has a really great time at the end of the year with the Mets in an exciting pennant race for them."

In addition to the player acquisitions, the move saves the D-backs around $950,000 for the rest of this year. Reed is earning $4.875 million this season and is set for another raise in arbitration this offseason. 

Reed, who lost the closer's job earlier this year, was 2-2 with a 4.20 ERA in 38 games this year. He was demoted to Triple-A Reno for a little over a month in the middle of the season to try and work out his mechanical issues.

In 13 games since his return he has a 1.65 ERA in 16 1/3 innings.

"Everything has felt awesome since I've come back from Reno," Reed said. "I've been throwing the ball where I wanted to."

Reed was acquired by the D-backs from the White Sox in exchange for Minor League third baseman Matt Davidson at the Winter Meetings in 2013.

Reed was 1-7 with a 4.25 ERA with 32 saves last season for the D-backs.
