SEATTLE -- Brandon Belt's health again became a source of concern for the Giants, who found themselves worried about his hyperextended right knee after their 3-2 loss Wednesday to the Mariners.
Belt, who leads the Giants in homers (14) and RBIs (43), will undergo tests and examinations Thursday to determine the injury's extent. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Belt probably would be sidelined for two to three days in a best-case scenario.
In previous years, concussions troubled Belt, and earlier this year, appendicitis sidelined the first baseman for close to two weeks. Now it's his right knee, which he hurt while crossing first base in the seventh inning.
Belt wasn't certain how his injury occurred. He said that his knee might have bent at an odd angle when Mariners pitcher Mike Leake brushed against him as he covered first base. Belt even thought his knee might have collapsed as he walked to second base, having automatically advanced there following Mariners second baseman Dee Gordon's throwing error.
"It's hard to pinpoint what happened," said Belt.
Overall, however, Belt sounded upbeat.
"I'm pretty optimistic," said Belt, who walked without assistance after the game. "Nothing really hurts, so that's good."
