DETROIT -- Mariners right-handed reliever Brandon Brennan, making his third appearance since coming off a seven-week stint on the injured list with a right shoulder issue, was taken out of Tuesday’s 11-6 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park after throwing just two pitches.

Brennan, the Mariners’ Rule 5 Draft rookie, started the sixth inning after Seattle had scored six runs in the top of the frame to take a 9-6 lead, but he shook his arm after throwing a 94-mph fastball that sailed inside on Dawel Lugo.

Manager Scott Servais and athletic trainer Rob Nodine hustled to the mound at the first sign of discomfort by Brennan, then they took him out of the game after a brief conversation.

Servais said Brennan checked out OK after the game but will be evaluated further on Wednesday.

“It was kind of the perfect storm,” Servais said. “He worked out his upper body today, then was out in the bullpen and threw too many pitches. We had the extended inning there, so when he came in, you could kind of tell from the first couple of warm-up pitches he wasn’t right.

“He tested out fine [afterward], but it didn’t look good, and he didn’t feel quite right, so we got him out of there. We’ll see how he feels [Wednesday].”

The 28-year-old had thrown a pair of one-inning stints in his first two games off the IL, allowing one run on a solo homer to the Padres on Wednesday and then working a 1-2-3 frame in a 1-0 loss to the Rays on Sunday.

Brennan is 2-6 with a 5.50 ERA in 33 appearances this season, with 36 strikeouts in 36 innings.
