Duo of top prospects Montes (2 homers), Arroyo (3 hits) continues to star at Triple-A

continued to show off his big-time power on Tuesday, reaching the 30-homer mark for the second consecutive season, and he did it in an emphatic way.

Montes whacked a pair of home runs, his first multi-homer game since a July 7 promotion to Triple-A, to go along with five RBIs in a 10-8 loss for Tacoma against Las Vegas at Las Vegas Ballpark.

The Mariners’ No. 4 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 38 overall, Montes crushed his first homer in the sixth inning. He handled a slider below the strike zone in a left-on-left matchup, launching it 427 feet to right-center field at 109.3 mph. It was a two-run shot.

Montes homered again in his next at-bat. This time against a righty, he pulled a changeup to right field at 100.9 mph for another two-run long ball. The 21-year-old outfielder added a run-scoring double in the ninth, giving him a 3-for-5 night.

Montes has made a dynamic duo alongside infielder (SEA No. 5, MLB No. 40) this season, with the pair moving together from Double-A to Triple-A. Arroyo -- who played left field in this game -- went 3-for-4 with a walk on Tuesday, scoring on each of Montes’ hits.

Montes is on track to top his career-best 32 homers from a year ago, while his first 21 games in Triple-A have gone swimmingly. He’s slashing .273/.343/.545 with 14 extra-base hits.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old, switch-hitting Arroyo has a .352/.398/.549 slash line in the same 21-game stretch at the Minors’ highest level.
