May 5th, 2022

Lehigh Valley infielder Darick Hall, Clearwater right-hander Andrew Painter and left-hander Corey Phelan have been named Phillies Minor League Hitter and Co-Pitchers of the Month, respectively, for April.

Hall, 26, posted a .284/.364/.682 slash line with eight doubles, nine home runs, 28 RBI, 20 runs and 10 walks in 23 games during April with triple-A Lehigh Valley. Among all minor league hitters in April, the left-handed slugger finished first in RBI, tied for first in games, tied for second in total bases (60), tied for third in homers and tied for 10th in runs. Hall, who was named International League Player of the Week for each of the last two weeks (4/18-24 and 4/25-5/1), recorded three multi-homer games in April. Entering play today, he had the following rankings among all minor league hitters this season: first in RBI (31), tied for first in extra-base hits (19) and games (26), second in total bases (69) and tied for third in homers (10). The Arizona native was selected by the Phillies in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB draft.

The 19-year-old Painter struck out 30 batters while allowing one unearned run in three April starts (12.0 IP) with single-A Clearwater. In those three outings, he surrendered four hits and three walks while posting a 0.58 WHIP. On April 23 vs Tampa, he struck out 14 of the 16 batters he faced (87.5%) over 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing one hit and no walks. Entering play today, the 6-foot-7 righty led the Florida State League in strikeouts (36) this season. Painter, who owns a 0.00 ERA this year, has struck out 36 of the 59 batters he has faced (61.0%) while holding opponents to a .111 batting average (6-54) in 16.0 innings (4 starts). He owns a 7.20 strikeout-to-walk ratio (36 SO, 5 BB) and is averaging 20.25 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched. Painter was selected by the Phillies in the first round (13th overall) of last year’s MLB draft.

Phelan, 19, has not pitched this season, but is being honored for his courage and perseverance as he undergoes treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which was diagnosed in April. A native of Huntington, N.Y., Phelan is currently receiving care in a New York City hospital. Signed by the Phillies as a non-drafted free agent in August 2020, Phelan made his professional debut last season with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Phillies and posted a 0.93 ERA over five relief appearances.
