Bellatti optioned to Triple-A after Friday's win
Rays reliever threw three scoreless innings; Romero to be recalled
SEATTLE -- Andrew Bellatti came through with three scoreless innings of relief in Friday night's 1-0 win over the Mariners. He was then told he'd been optioned to Triple-A Durham.
"Can not say enough about what Andrew Bellatti did," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "Comes in and provides those innings against a very good hitting team. It was pretty impressive."
Left-hander Enny Romero will be recalled prior to Saturday's game.
Given the fragile nature of the Rays pitching staff heading into Saturday's game, another pitcher was needed to bolster the bullpen, and perhaps the starting staff, depending on the diagnosis of Jake Odorizzi's left-side injury.
"I definitely don't want to take away from what Andrew did tonight," Cash said. "That definitely helped us win the ballgame. Probably the reason we won the ballgame. Save a lot of guys in the bullpen that didn't need to pitch. Needed the day off and he provided that."
Bellatti was credited with the win to move to 2-0 on the season, while lowering his ERA to 1.80 in four appearances during his two stints with the team this season.
