He spent most of the season with Class AAA Pawtucket, batting .259 (88-340) with nine home runs, 52 RBI and 49 runs scored. The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder was traded to Arizona on December 11, 2012 with infielder Didi Gregorius and left-hander Tony Sipp in exchange for right-handers Matt Albers, Trevor Bauer and Bryan Shaw. Anderson was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on January 24, 2013.
Anderson has appeared in 30 career games over three major-league seasons with Boston (2010-12), hitting .167 (8-48) with four RBI.
