SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- There are a few gray hairs coming in on the sides of A.J. Pollock's head. They are the only giveaway that Pollock has become an elder statesman in the D-backs clubhouse.
Selected 17th overall in the 2009 Draft, Pollock is bested by only Paul Goldschmidt, who was picked in the eighth round that year, in current big league service time exclusively with the D-backs.

"I've been pretty fortunate to have been here for this long," Pollock said. "I feel like I know so many people in this organization. I don't know if it's rare for a player to know every single person in the building as I feel like I do."
Whether Pollock will be in a D-backs uniform next year is an open question.

Free agency looms for the 30-year-old, and he could be in for a big payday somewhere else.
"You have your focus on this season," Pollock said. "It's a pretty cool team and we're building from last year, but of course you kind of look at where you're at in your career and how many years you have left here. I think as a human being it would be hard not to have it come into you mind."
Pollock has seen a lot in his time, including a number of different front-office regimes with the D-backs.
Pollock was drafted by general manager Josh Byrnes, made his big league debut when Kevin Towers was GM and had his best year as a pro in 2015 with Dave Stewart as GM.
"I've seen a lot of players get traded and a lot of things happen," Pollock said. "And I feel fortunate that I've been able to be here as long as I have and meet some really awesome people and great teammates who I'll be friends with the rest of my life."
That includes Goldschmidt, whom he played with in the Minor Leagues, and Chris Owings, who was drafted the same year.
The connections run deep -- Pollock's dog Ollie's best friend is Owings' dog, Tucker.

Pollock was single when he joined the D-backs and wound up proposing to his then-girlfriend Kate, an Australia native, on Bondi Beach when the D-backs were in Sydney to open the 2014 regular season against the Dodgers.
"My wife, too, she's gotten to know everyone," Pollock said. "Not looking forward, but we're very fortunate to have been here as long as we have. It's been a lot of fun and I'm going to enjoy this year and whatever happens next year happens."
