NEW YORK -- Monday’s game between the Mets and Cubs was postponed due to rain. A split doubleheader is scheduled for Wednesday at Citi Field, with start times at 1:10 and 7:10 p.m. ET.
The Mets didn’t need to revamp their pitching plans, instead opting to push back Kodai Senga, who was Monday’s scheduled starter, for Tuesday’s contest. That sets Nolan McLean and Sean Manaea up to start the two halves of Wednesday’s doubleheader in some order.
The Cubs, whose Sunday game against the Blue Jays was also postponed, will be plenty rested for their return to play on Tuesday. Shota Imanaga, Chicago’s scheduled starter for Monday’s postponed game, hasn’t pitched since June 15 but will not start until Wednesday’s twin bill. Imanaga and Javier Assad are expected to get those two games, but the Cubs haven’t decided on specifics yet. Right-hander Edward Cabrera, Tuesday’s scheduled starter, will remain on turn to start Tuesday as planned.
Though the Cubs (40-37) and Mets (34-43) have starkly different records, they are coming into this four-game series in similar places. The last-place Mets have lost seven of their last 12 games, squandering opportunities to push their way back into any sort of postseason contention. The Cubs, meanwhile, have lost their early grip on the NL Central, following up a 27-12 start to the season with a 13-25 run since early May.
Fans holding tickets for Monday’s originally scheduled game can use them for the 1:10 p.m. game on Wednesday. After that game concludes, those with unused tickets will receive a digital voucher good for comparable tickets to a future 2026 home game. The full rainout policy is available at Mets.com/weather.
