SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Archie Bradley is trying to change things up a little this year, literally.
The D-backs right-hander is working on mixing a changeup into his repertoire as he competes with Brad Boxberger and Yoshihisa Hirano for the closer's spot.
Bradley allowed four runs on two hits while walking three over 1 1/3 innings Tuesday afternoon in a 14-12 loss to the Giants.

But numbers, especially during Spring Training, don't always tell the full story.

For one thing, three of the runs scored after Bradley left the game, and the hits came against his changeup, a pitch he threw once all of last season when he relied mainly on his fastball and curve.
"I'm trying to mix that back in," Bradley said. "I'm always trying to improve, and I think it's always a pitch that, regardless of what role you're in, can be very effective in the big leagues."
While he felt good about the changeup, fastball command was a different story.
"It felt good," Bradley said. "I'm not trying to sound like an older guy, but that's what's important right now is how you feel. I made some good pitches; I just wasn't in the zone enough."
Boxberger does not pitch
Boxberger was on the original list to pitch Tuesday, but did not.
"We just kind of readjusted the schedule a little bit," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said after Tuesday's game. "I don't know when the next time he is going to pitch. I'll have an update for you guys tomorrow in some capacity as to when and how."
Boxberger has made one appearance this spring, and it came last Friday.
Lovullo said there was nothing wrong with Boxberger.
"No," he said. "I think the veteran players, the veteran pitchers, they all know what they need and the time that they need. I'll have an update for you as far as when and how the next step is going to be."
Walker makes debut
Taijuan Walker was hoping to throw his full assortment of pitches in his first outing of the spring, but he didn't plan on having to use them all on Giants leadoff hitter Joe Panik.
"It was kind of a grind," Walker said. "They were fouling off a lot of pitches, which is fine. It's Spring Training. Their timing is off a little bit. When we get closer to the season, they're going to put some of those balls in play and that's just quick outs. Pound the zone and get quick outs."
Walker used his pitch allotment to get through the first inning, so he did not go out for the second. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out two.

The D-backs play the Rockies for the third time this spring Wednesday afternoon at Salt River Fields with Patrick Corbin set to make his spring debut. Hirano is also scheduled to pitch.
