SAN DIEGO -- Patrick Corbin will start Tuesday night when the D-backs take on the Angels and Clay Buchholz will get the ball Wednesday.
After that, well stay tuned.
The D-backs are likely to use the two off-days they have this week -- Monday and Thursday -- to adjust their rotation. There are no injury or performance concerns, but rather the team wants to take advantage of the days to set up what it thinks are the best matchups for each pitcher coming up.
"We're talking about that right now," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "I feel strongly there might be a little bit of a change. We haven't finalized about it nor talked to anybody about it, so I'll let you guys know that in probably the next 48 hours."
Speaking of the starters
Since taking over as manager last year, Lovullo has emphasized to his starting pitchers that he wants them to shoot for getting at least 21 outs each time they take the ball.
For the most part, that has led to success, but Lovullo plans on shortening the starter's leash when needed as the team enters the final weeks of the season in a pennant chase.
For an example of what might change, Saturday night after starter Zack Godley gave up three runs in the fourth, Lovullo sent him back out for the fifth and he wound up allowing another three runs.
"I'm wearing a little bit of what happened yesterday," Lovullo said before Sunday's game. "Zack had three really crisp easy innings, he got nicked up in the fourth. I want to send him back out there for the fifth, but yesterday is an example of where I should probably pay attention to things a little bit closer and keep a shorter leash on him in that fifth inning. It definitely slipped away from him and I know he gave up three more runs."
