PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was forced to leave Friday night's 3-2 loss to the Rockies in the top of the sixth inning after he felt tightness in his left hamstring while making a sliding catch.
Gurriel will undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury.
“He's going to be evaluated [Saturday], so we'll categorize him as day to day," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said.
Asked if he was concerned that Gurriel might have to miss significant time, Lovullo said, "There's a small concern, maybe kind of like right in the middle type of concern. Yeah, not high, not low, right in the middle."
Gurriel drove in both D-backs runs before leaving the game, with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and an RBI single in the fourth. He said he did not think the injury was serious, but will wait and see what the tests show.
It would be a blow for Gurriel to have to miss time. The veteran tore his right anterior cruciate ligament last September and underwent season-ending surgery.
Expected to miss the first couple of months of this season, Gurriel worked extremely hard during his rehab and surprised the team by being ready to return to the active roster on April 18.
