PHOENIX -- After pitching well in his first official rehab outing on Tuesday night for Class A-Advanced Visalia, D-backs right-hander Shelby Miller will start Monday for Double-A Jackson.
Miller, around 13 months removed from Tommy John surgery, allowed one run on four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out eight over five innings for Visalia.
"I had some backup cutters that weren't very good, but as far as everything else, it was pretty good," Miller said. "My fastball was really, really good. My curveball was good and I threw some good cutters as well, just kind of fine-tuning that a little bit. I think, overall, just a pretty positive outing."
Miller was scheduled to go five innings and/or 75 pitches Tuesday, but was so efficient that he got through five while throwing 65 pitches, 52 for strikes.
Miller threw a bullpen Friday at Chase Field and said his arm feels "great." For Monday's start, the target will be in the 75-80 pitch range.
Other injury news
Outfielders Steven Souza Jr. (right pec strain) and A.J. Pollock (right thumb avulsion fracture) will have their injuries re-examined Monday. Souza will have a follow-up MRI while Pollock will be X-rayed.
Left-hander Robbie Ray (oblique strain) threw a bullpen Friday and should throw another Monday.
Reliever Randall Delgado, who has battled various injuries since Spring Training, threw 11 pitches in an extended spring game Friday. His next step will be to pitch at a Minor League affiliate.
