The Diamondbacks will be without rookie outfielder Tommy Troy to begin the second half, as their first-round pick in the 2023 Draft landed on the 10-day injured list for the first time in his career with a sprained right AC joint.
The move is retroactive to Sunday; Arizona has not replaced Troy on its active roster yet.
Troy hurt himself in the fifth inning of the D-backs' game Saturday at Dodger Stadium, running into the wall throwing-arm first to make a catch on a 392-foot flyout off the bat of Teoscar Hernández. The 24-year-old was able to underhand the ball to right fielder Corbin Carroll but immediately doubled over in pain, and after a visit from manager Torey Lovullo and assistant athletic trainer Max Esposito, he left the game.
Since being called up on May 23, Troy -- who began the season as the D-backs' No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline -- has slashed .223/.299/.364 with four home runs, three doubles, a triple and nine RBIs in 39 games. Drafted primarily as an infielder out of Stanford before beginning to play to outfield last season with Triple-A Reno, Troy has started 21 games in left field and 14 games in center for the D-backs.
In a separate transaction Wednesday, the D-backs outrighted Pavin Smith to Reno, after the first baseman -- who was designated for assignment last Friday -- cleared waivers.
