SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Giants and catcher Tom Murphy agreed to terms on a two-year Major League contract worth $8.25 million that also includes a club option for 2026. Murphy will earn $4 million in 2024 and $4 million in 2025. The contract also includes a club option for the 2026 season that would pay Murphy a base salary of $4 million. If the club does not exercise the option, Murphy would be entitled to a $250,000 buyout. Murphy will also make a $20,000 annual donation to the Giants Community Fund in each of his first two seasons and a $20,000 donation in 2026 if the option is exercised.

Murphy, who turns 33 on April 3, is a career .244 hitter with 45 doubles, 48 home runs, 126 RBI and a .769 OPS across 315 games at the Major League level for Colorado (2015-2018) and Seattle (2019-2023). In his 234 career games with the Mariners from 2019-2023, Murphy hit 38 homers and logged a .784 OPS.

In 2023, Murphy hit .290 with 19 runs, 12 doubles, eight home runs, 17 RBI and an .873 OPS across 47 games. Defensively, Murphy had a career-low 3.18 catcher ERA in 351.1 innings behind the dish last season for Seattle. He missed the final six weeks of the season last year after being placed on the 10-day Injured List on August 14 with a left thumb sprain.

The West Monroe, NY, native owns a career .842 OPS in 473 career plate appearances against southpaws. Last season, he posted an .869 OPS against lefties, slashing .292/.361/.508, while slashing .288/.314/.563 versus right-handers.
