Mariners acquire reliever Legumina from Reds for cash

February 3rd, 2025

The Mariners made another move to add bullpen depth, acquiring right-handed reliever from the Reds on Monday for cash considerations. Legumina, who was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Jan. 30, was added to Seattle's 40-man roster.

In six big league games over multiple call-ups last season, the 27-year-old Legumina posted an 8.68 ERA, though he had a 3.24 ERA over 39 appearances for Triple-A Louisville. He made his Major League debut in 2023 and had a 5.68 ERA over 11 games.

Legumina joins several other relievers that the Mariners have added this offseason who could potentially serve as bullpen depth. Seattle, for example, signed hard-throwing Shintaro Fujinami to a Minor League deal in January, as well as former closer NeftalĂ Feliz.

Led by closer Andrés Muñoz, the bullpen was a strength for Seattle last season, with Mariners relievers ranking ninth in MLB with a 3.71 ERA.

The Reds originally acquired Legumina from the Twins in the Nov. 18, 2022, trade for infielder Kyle Farmer. He is under club control through the 2030 season.
