February 11th, 2026

The Washington Nationals signed right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas to a one-year Major League contract and placed left-handed pitcher DJ Herz on the 60-day Injured List on Tuesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations Paul Toboni made the announcement.

Mikolas, 37, is a two-time National League All-Star (2018, 2022) in 10 Major League seasons with the San Diego Padres (2012-13), Texas Rangers (2014) and St. Louis Cardinals (2018-24). He is one of only four pitchers in Major League Baseball to make 31 or more starts in each of the last four seasons, and his 130 starts since 2022 rank tied for second in MLB over that span.

The Jupiter, Fla., native is 72-75 with a 4.24 ERA in 241 games (213 starts) in his Major League career, including the 2018 season in St. Louis in which he led the NL in wins with 18 and pitched to a 2.83 ERA. In 2025, Mikolas went 8-11 with a 4.84 ERA in 31 starts for the Cardinals.

Originally a seventh-round pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Nova Southeastern University (Fla.), Mikolas spent three seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball, pitching for the Yomiuri Giants. He went 31-13 with a 2.18 ERA in 62 starts in Japan from 2015-17 before returning to Major League Baseball in 2018.

Mikolas was a member of the 2023 United States World Baseball Classic roster. He pitched to a 1.50 ERA in 6.0 innings with five strikeouts in two starts.
