BALTIMORE -- Orioles staff ace Dylan Bundy was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain Tuesday, with the hope that he can return in the first week of July.
Left-handed reliever Donnie Hart was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk as the corresponding move after the Orioles' bullpen was worked hard in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Mariners.
After notching his first career hit in a win over the Braves on Saturday, Bundy injured his ankle while rounding third base in the fifth inning. He remained in the game to pitch and took another at-bat, but the injury has not progressed as the team would have liked.
"He threw on flat ground, and he's still got some black and blue down there ... underneath," manager Buck Showalter said. "It's his landing foot."
Bundy will be eligible to come off the DL in time for a Fourth of July game against the Phillies, but his planned return will be pushed back to July 6 against the Twins as to avoid him hitting in his first game back.
Bundy has pitched well of late, taking the win in three of his past four outings on top of owning a 1.98 ERA in the month of June. As far as replacing Bundy goes, the team is looking at its options at Norfolk, as well as considering giving relievers Miguel Castro or Mike Wright Jr. a spot start, depending on how much they are needed out of the bullpen this week.
Righty Jimmy Yacabonis was scratched from a scheduled start for Norfolk on Tuesday night, leaving him as a potential candidate to take Bundy's spot.
