TORONTO -- Two important pieces for the Orioles’ bullpen are inching closer to returns.
Reliever Ryan Helsley is slated to throw in a Triple-A rehab outing for the Norfolk Tides on Saturday, O’s manager Craig Albernaz said prior to Friday’s series opener against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
Helsley first went on the 15-day injured list on July 3 (retroactive to June 30) with right elbow discomfort, before being transferred to the 60-day IL on July 19. The right-hander had been progressing and threw 24 pitches in live batting practice on Tuesday at Camden Yards. The rehab outing will be his first, but no indication was given on how long it may take for him to return to the big league club.
In 15 1/3 innings across 17 games this season, Helsley has a 4.11 ERA and eight saves.
Meanwhile, fellow reliever Félix Bautista will also throw for Norfolk again on Saturday. It will be his eighth outing since Aug. 23, as he makes his way back from right shoulder surgery in August 2025.
Bautista last threw on Thursday, getting his fastball up to 98 mph in a scoreless inning against Memphis, Albernaz said. Across six rehab innings, he’s struck out seven.
