PHILADELPHIA -- 's on-base streak hit 40 games as he rounded the bases in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Mets at Citizens Bank Park.
Herrera hit a first-inning homer off Mets left-hander , loudly extending his on-base streak on the second pitch he saw. Herrera's sixth homer of the season, a solo shot, left his bat at 109.2 mph and had a projected distance of 418 feet according to Statcast™.
The 40-game streak -- which dates back to Sept. 27, 2017 -- tied Herrera for the seventh longest in Phillies history. Willie Montanez reached base safely in 40 consecutive games during the 1974 season. Mike Schmidt owns the longest on-base streak in franchise history at 56 games from 1981-82.
Herrera extended his own Phillies record for longest on-base streak to start a season to 36 games.
Herrera's homer accounted for the Phillies' only offense in Friday's loss, but it continued a surge for the center fielder. Herrera finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk, and he is 12-for-21 (.571) with three homers, 10 RBIs and five walks in his past six games, raising his season OPS from .844 to .995 during the stretch.
"Odubel, it doesn't matter who's on the mound, lefty, righty, doesn't matter what time of game, he's going to give you a good at-bat right now and drive the ball out of the ballpark from time to time and walk, see pitches," Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said.
