Phils' No. 9 prospect spins 5 no-hit frames as the new cast member at High-A

A year and a half ago, Ramon Marquez signed with the Phillies for just $10,000. On Friday night, he made his High-A debut, climbing the next rung in his rapid -- and impressive -- ascent.

The 20-year-old righty threw five no-hit innings for Jersey Shore in the BlueClaws’ 4-2 loss to the Greenville Drive at ShoreTown Ballpark.

As is the tradition in the state of New Jersey, many residents are flocking to the coast for the summer. Phillies prospects joined the pilgrimage this week as Marquez (PHI No. 9), Cody Bowker (PHI No. 14), Gabe Craig (PHI No. 23) and Tanner Greshman all joined the BlueClaws after they helped Single-A Clearwater clinch a playoff spot in the Florida State League as the Threshers secured the West Division’s first-half title shortly after the quartet’s departure.

Marquez got his first taste of the lifestyle Friday night, retiring the first seven batters he faced before quickly working around a walk by twirling up a ground-ball double play. He struck out six batters in total with the walk as the only blemish in his five innings of work.

Up to this point, the Phillies have been increasingly bullish about their 2025 international signee out of Mexico. After signing on with the organization, he diverted from the traditional Dominican Summer League route, going straight to the Rookie-level Florida Complex League to make his debut. After 50 strikeouts over 10 outings, Marquez made the move to Single-A. He pitched in four games as he got his toes wet in full-season affiliate ball.

Marquez was back in Clearwater to start 2026. He took home FSL Pitcher of the Week honors after posting back-to-back nine-strikeout performances on May 9 and 16 and ultimately was named the organization's co-Pitcher of the Month for May.

He continued his impressive run across all six starts as he posted a 1.86 ERA and .173 batting average against, not allowing more than two earned runs in an outing. His WHIP of 0.85 this season would rank as the best among the club's pitching prospects if he had enough innings to qualify.

So while his time on the Shore has just begun, Phillies fans can already start pumping their fists for Marquez.
