Thomson, players to return for Phillies Winter Tour, starting on MLK Day of Service

Phillies players, staff and alumni will be back in town, beginning on the MLK Day of Service, to participate in numerous community and charitable events as part of this year’s Winter Tour.

Among those scheduled to participate are Phillies manager Rob Thomson, pitcher Aaron Nola, outfielder Brandon Marsh and rookie pitcher Orion Kerkering. Special appearances will also be made by 1993 National League champions Mickey Morandini and Milt Thompson (also a coach for the 2008 World Series champions), 1980 World Series champion pitcher Dickie Noles and the Phillie Phanatic, among other members of the Phillies front office.

This offseason visit takes place just one month before pitchers and catchers report for spring training in Clearwater, Fla. For more information, visit phillies.com.

Monday, January 15 – MLK Day of Service Events

  • Phillies Give Back at Strawberry Mansion Learning Center *

10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – Strawberry Mansion Learning Center, 2946 W Dauphin Street, Philadelphia, PA

Rob and Michele Thomson, along with members of the Phillies front office, will join volunteers from the Strawberry Mansion Learning Center to assist with various tasks around the center, including indoor and outdoor painting, garden preparation and more. The event is a continuation of the Phillies’ work with the learning center through the MLB Legacy Project. The Strawberry Mansion Learning Center, a neighborhood safe haven for kids, provides free after-school and summer programming for children grades 5-12.

  • Phillies to Host Clinic for RBI Baseball Players *

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Phillies and visiting batting tunnels, Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA

Thomson will join Morandini, Thompson, Noles and the team’s Youth Baseball & Softball Development Staff in hosting a clinic for several RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) youth baseball teams.

Tuesday, January 16

  • Phillies to Serve Meals with St. Francis Inn Ministries *

4:00 to 5:30 p.m. – St. Francis Inn, 2441 Kensington Avenue, Philadelphia, PA (entrance on adjacent East Hagert Street)

Marsh will join Rob and Michele Thomson to serve meals at St. Francis Inn, whose volunteers have been serving sit-down meals to the neediest of individuals and families in Philadelphia since 1979.

Wednesday, January 17

  • Aaron Nola to be Honored at Philadelphia Sports Writers Awards Banquet

5:00 p.m. – DoubleTree by Hilton, 2349 Marlton Pike West, Cherry Hill, NJ

The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association will be hosting its 119th Annual Awards Banquet. Aaron Nola will be receiving the 2023 PSWA Humanitarian Award. Thomson will also be attending and speaking at the dinner. Each year, the PSWA recognizes elite professional, college and high school athletes and coaches from the Philadelphia area for their extraordinary accomplishments on the field and in the community. Thursday, January 18

  • Phillies Manager, Players to Take Part in Phanatic About Reading Assembly presented by Xfinity *

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. – Clara Barton Elementary School, 4600 Rosehill Street, Philadelphia, PA

One of the top performing schools in the Phanatic About Reading program presented by Xfinity will receive a special visit by the Phillies! Students and teachers will be treated to an interactive event that features the Phanatic, who will team up with Thomson, Marsh and Kerkering to read or act out scenes from his book, The Phillie Phanatic’s Hero. This free, incentive-based program encourages students in grades Pre-K through 8 to read or be read to for a minimum of 15 minutes a day to improve their literacy skills. More than 146,000 students participate in the program.

  • Players to Make Trip to Lehigh Valley for Phillies Winter Caravan Hosted by IronPigs Charities

5:00 p.m. Media Session; 6:00 p.m. Dinner & Program – ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, PA

The Phillies are coming to Lehigh Valley! This fan event benefiting IronPigs Charities will feature dinner, a question-and-answer session with Thomson, Marsh and Kerkering, the chance to bid on signed sports memorabilia, and more. For ticket information, visit here.
