Salvatore DeAngelis is currently the Director of Operations/Security for the Philadelphia Phillies, a position he has held since 2012. DeAngelis joined the Phillies as a game-day usher in 1994 and eventually transitioned into a full-time role in 1999. Under his tenure he has planned and executed such high-profile events as the closing of Veterans Stadium, numerous MLB playoff games, the 2008 and 2009 World Series, the 2008 World Series parade, the 2012 NHL Winter Classic, annual sold out concerts, and ancillary events surrounding the 2016 Democratic National Convention. DeAngelis was also the 2015 recipient of the āIndustry Leader Under 40 Award.ā In 2019 Citizens Bank Park received the āFacility of Merit for Safety and Security Award.ā More recently, DeAngelis was the named āProfessional of the Year.ā All three awards were given by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4).
The domestic and international security landscape has tasked DeAngelis with improving the safety procedures implemented at Citizens Bank Park. Most notably the introduction of metal detection screening, the use of Explosive Detection Canine Teams and a complete hardening of the facilityās perimeter. DeAngelis partakes in constant communication with law enforcement agencies at the local and state levels, as well as with the Department of Homeland Security, United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Philliesā SAFETY Act application efforts began in late-2015 and they were awarded āDesignationā in April 2019.
Moonlighting as an adjunct professor, DeAngelis has taught at Holy Family University (2001 ā 2017), Drexel University (2008 ā 2017) and Temple University (2006 ā 2007) where he has lectured at both the undergraduate and graduate levels on sport facility management and event planning. In 2012 he published a chapter for the textbook āDistribution Decisions in Sport Marketing.ā
DeAngelis was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his BA in Management-Marketing from Holy Family College (1999) and his M.Ed. in Sports and Recreation Administration from Temple University (2002). He currently lives in Cinnaminson, New Jersey.
