Cards-Braves rained out; twin bill Sunday

June 19th, 2021

The Cardinals will hope the rain provides a restful respite.

With Saturday's nationally televised tilt with the Braves rained out due to inclement weather, -- the organization's proclaimed "bulldog" -- will open a split doubleheader at Truist Park on Sunday beginning at 1:10 p.m. CT, looking to get his club back on an auspicious path in his home state.

will start Game 2 of the doubleheader, set for Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN at 6 p.m. CT. Both games are slated for seven innings.

For the Cardinals, no game on Saturday meant a break in the action from two consecutive losses in Atlanta, where they’re playing for the first time since the roller-coaster 2019 NLDS. Both losses have come on the heels of a three-game sweep of the Marlins, which seemed to provide a leaping-off point for a turnaround.

Instead, things have magnified to 13 losses in their last 18 games, with an offense batting .211 and averaging just 2.81 runs per game in June.

Wainwright will provide St. Louis another opportunity to right its course, as he’s done countless times in his career.

Fans with tickets for Saturday's game can use it for Sunday's 1:10 p.m. game, or if they are unable to attend the rescheduled game, those tickets can be exchanged for any remaining 2021 regular-season Braves home game. Ticket exchanges must take place before the rescheduled game begins on Sunday at 1:10. Visit www.braves.com/rainout for all up-to-date information.
