Bucs-Cards postponed; makeup on June 14 as split DH
ST. LOUIS -- The final game of the Cardinals and Pirates’ four-game season-opening series was postponed due to inclement weather.
Monday’s game will be rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on June 14. The first game will be at 12:15 p.m. CT. The second game will be at 6:45 p.m. CT.
Tickets for Monday’s game will be valid for the rescheduled 12:15 p.m. game. Additional ticket policy details are available online at cardinals.com/tickets.
Both teams have adjusted their rotations to account for the unanticipated extra day of rest. For the Cardinals, that means Jordan Hicks’ much-anticipated starting assignment on Tuesday will be delayed.
Hicks, who missed much of the past 2 1/2 seasons following Tommy John surgery -- due to a medical opt-out in 2020 and another minor right elbow injury in '21 -- was scheduled to make the first start of his MLB career on Tuesday against the Royals. Instead, Hicks, a reliever who once touched 105.1 mph, will work out of the bullpen behind starter Dakota Hudson.
Hicks’ next scheduled start will be on Sunday in Milwaukee. Staff ace Adam Wainwright will pitch Wednesday’s day game against the Royals.
For the Pirates, Zach Thompson, who was scheduled for Monday’s postponed game, will now pitch on Wednesday against the Cubs. José Quintana will still pitch the home opener against Chicago.
For their subsequent series against the Nationals, the Pirates will start JT Brubaker (Thursday), Mitch Keller (Friday), Bryse Wilson (Saturday) and Quintana (Sunday).
The Cardinals took the first two games of the series against the Pirates, outscoring Pittsburgh, 15-2. But the Bucs answered back with a 9-4 win on Sunday.
