MIAMI -- News on the injury front is positive for a group of D-backs working to come back from the disabled list.
A.J. Pollock (fractured left thumb) is in the early stages of swinging the bat again while continuing to strengthen his arm.
"The plan is to have him take BP today [at Salt River Fields] and see how he feels and figure out what the best plan is moving forward," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said on Thursday. "Several people that saw him gave me great feedback as to how his day went yesterday and said that he looked really, really good. He was aggressively attacking the ball and showing no signs of the injury.
"I think the things that we have to be aware of, it's been six weeks of non-game activity, so we want to make sure that he's going to get out on the field and be able to run and chase balls down and be agile without taking any steps back. But he feels good; everything's trending in a good direction."
• After two rehab games with Class A Advanced Visalia, outfielder Steven Souza Jr. (strained right pectoral) is ready to take the next step in his journey back.
"The schedule is for him to migrate up to Tacoma and play with [Triple-A] Reno for the next several days," Lovullo said. "So everything is trending well for him, too."
• Right-handed pitcher Randall Delgado, on the 60-day DL with a strained left oblique, threw a scoreless inning for Reno on Wednesday. He has gone 2-1 with a 3.29 ERA over 13 2/3 innings of work in 12 rehab games.
"He is probably right in the middle of his rehab plan," Lovullo said. "We want to give him a full Spring Training. There are still several more appearances for him on his rehab assignment."
• Righty starter Clay Buchholz (left oblique strain) is not quite ready to resume throwing.
"We're still getting full clearance on him," Lovullo said. "I think the plan was to get him back to Phoenix and let our doctors take a look at him. He's feeling better, but still has some discomfort in that area."
