PHOENIX -- There were many memorable moments from the D-backs’ magical run to the World Series last October, but one that most certainly stands out for fans came in the eighth inning of Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.

At the time, the D-backs trailed the Phillies in games, 2-1, and they were down 5-3 with one out and one on in the eighth when manager Torey Lovullo decided to pinch-hit for Emmanuel Rivera against Phillies reliever Craig Kimbrel.

Thomas worked the count to 3-2 before hitting a 94-mph fastball on the outside corner of the plate over the wall in right-center field and into the pool for a game-tying homer.

The D-backs would go on to win that game, and the series, in seven games.

Tonight, the D-backs will commemorate that moment by giving the first 20,000 fans a T-shirt that captures various expressions and gestures that Thomas made while rounding the bases that night.

While the moment has been replayed over and over again on the scoreboard at Chase Field, as well as in postseason highlight reels, no one has relived it more than Thomas himself.

“Almost every day, I would say,” Thomas said. “It was just a really special moment. I loved the swing. I loved seeing all the fans get really excited and getting this place bumping. I definitely think about it quite often.”

Thomas said he was not involved in designing the shirt, but loves the look of it, which has lightning bolts surrounding the images of him.

“I just saw it one day and was like, ‘Oh, that’s pretty sweet,’” Thomas said. “I think I have a few shirts that have that vibe to it.”

Thomas was flattered when the D-backs approached him with the idea of giving away the T-shirt.

“It means a lot,” Thomas said. “It means you did something right, coming up big in that moment and the history of it and everything. It was pretty sweet. And now having a shirt and it being given away at the stadium is an honor.”
