What to know about D-backs Spring Training

After making a 22-win improvement in 2022, the D-backs open their 26th Spring Training next week optimistic that behind a new, developing young core of players they can take another step forward and get their first taste of postseason baseball since '17.

Arizona fans, who spent a few years hearing about the club's burgeoning farm system, got a chance to see the first wave of young talent make its way to the big leagues last season, including , who is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline.

Fans will have an excellent opportunity to see players up close early in camp, as the D-backs are once again opening all workouts for free to the public, giving them a chance to get autographs and pictures of their favorite players.

When is the first workout for pitchers and catchers?
Feb. 15.

What is the date of the first full-squad workout?
Feb. 20.

Where is the team’s facility?
Salt River Fields is located at 7555 N. Pima Road in Scottsdale.

Can fans attend workouts?
Yes. There is no charge for fans wanting to attend workouts on the back fields of Salt River Fields. Beginning on Feb. 15, workouts are open to the public from 9 a.m. MST to 12:30 p.m. MST, and fans may park in the Desert Lot, located on the north side of the complex and best accessed via 90th Street, off of Via de Ventura.

Who are some of the top prospects invited to Major League camp?
A number of the organization’s top prospects will be in camp, including Carroll, shortstop Jordan Lawlar (the D-backs' No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline) and pitchers Brandon Pfaadt (No. 4), Blake Walston (No. 5), Ryne Nelson (No. 8), Drey Jameson (No. 9), Slade Cecconi (No. 11) and .

Which players will be participating in the World Baseball Classic?
While World Baseball Classic rosters are not yet official, right-hander  has said that he is going to pitch for Team USA.

When is the team’s first Cactus League game?
The D-backs open Cactus League play with a split-squad game on Feb. 25. They will play against the A’s in Mesa and host the Rockies at Salt River Fields.

What are a few other notable spring games?
The D-backs host the Cubs on Feb. 27 in the afternoon, then they have an exhibition game against West Virginia University in the evening at Salt River Fields. Admission to the WVU game will be free.

The club always gets a good look at teams in its division during the spring, with every NL West team training in Arizona. The D-backs will face the Padres and Dodgers twice, the Rockies three times and the Giants four times.

Will the team’s games be televised?
Nine Spring Training games will be televised. The Feb. 26 game against the Padres will be on Bally Sports Arizona Extra.

Games broadcast on Bally Sports Arizona include: Feb. 27 (vs. Cubs), March 4 (vs. Padres), March 11 (at Angels), March 15 (vs. Brewers), March 16 (at Cubs), March 23 (vs. Dodgers), March 26 (at Brewers) and March 28 (vs. Guardians).

When is the club’s last preseason game?
The D-backs close out their exhibition schedule with a pair of games at Chase Field against the Guardians on March 27 and 28.

What are the details for Opening Day?
Arizona opens the 2023 regular season against the Dodgers on March 30 at Dodger Stadium, beginning at 7:10 MST.
