Shoulder injury lands Peralta on the shelf

May 25th, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO -- D-backs outfielder was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday with inflammation in the AC joint of his right (non-throwing) shoulder.

It was one of a trio of moves made by the club, with utility man Tim Locastro and first baseman Kevin Cron being called up from Reno. Reliever Jimmie Sherfy had been optioned to Reno following Wednesday's game with the Padres, so there was already one open spot on the 25-man roster.

Peralta said he cannot remember exactly how the injury first occurred, but he aggravated it while attempting to make a diving catch on the last homestand. After getting a day off Wednesday, the shoulder did not improve so the team had Peralta undergo an MRI exam, which showed the inflammation.

“Good thing it’s not my throwing arm, but it’s affecting my swing,” Peralta said. “I’ll be fine. I’ll be good. The good thing is there’s no damage. Rotator cuff, labrum, everything is perfect. Just need to calm down the inflammation and I’ll be back in business.”

Peralta has been the team’s most consistent hitter this year, with a .309/.357/.524 slash line.

“We’re hopeful at some point prior to the 10 days that he’ll be back into activity,” D-backs GM Mike Hazen said. “We’ll have to see how it goes.”

The move was backdated to Wednesday, so Peralta will be eligible to return on June 1.
