Is Brenly headed to D-backs' booth from Chicago?
Former Arizona announcer will not return to Cubs broadcasts in 2013
The D-backs declined comment and Brenly declined to speak about any possible future job possibilities.
"I had as much fun as you could have in the last eight years," Brenly said of his time with the Cubs. "I have nothing negative to say. It was great."
The D-backs are looking for both a television play-by-play announcer and an analyst to replace the team of Daron Sutton and Mark Grace. The organization elected not to bring back Sutton, who was suspended for much of the 2012 season, and Grace, who was arrested for his second DUI offense this past August.
Brenly, who served as a television analyst for the D-backs from 1998-2000 and managed the team from 2001-04, was a top target for the D-backs.
"Obviously I would lying if I didn't say I reached out to Bob Brenly right away," team president and CEO Derrick Hall said last week. "Bob was my first call. We've had a few conversations. We just have to see if we can get creative to get competitive."
The broadcast team of Thom Brennaman and Brenly were extremely popular in the early years of the franchise and Brenly also had success in the dugout, as he led the D-backs to the World Series title in 2001.
Brenly and his wife have maintained a home in the Phoenix area during his tenure in Chicago.
