The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that the game time for the July 4 matchup versus the San Francisco Giants has been rescheduled for 3:10 p.m. The change is the result of ongoing roof issues that will prohibit its opening for traditional fireworks at the conclusion of the game. The anticipated heat will not allow the roof to remain open for the game and postgame show. To celebrate the holiday, the team will distribute a Patriotic 4th of July Tee for the first 10,000 fans in attendance.

Prior to the start of regular season, a routine Chase Field roof inspection uncovered concern over a small section of cable that operates the Chase Field roof pulley system to open and close the roof. This discovery mandated that the roof only be opened and closed without fans present.

The D-backs have successfully complied with this directive, pre-determining the roof’s status before each home game and exploring options for replacing the cable while the team is on the road, one section at a time. Recommendations for necessary repairs and a realistic timetable to do so with both the in-season baseball schedule and off-season events schedule have yet to be given.
