Across the Minor Leagues, several players have gotten off to roaring hot starts to begin the 2026 season. Few, however, have flashed more power through the first month-plus of play than Kevin Alcántara.
The Cubs No. 3 prospect’s power surge continued on Saturday as he crushed his 11th home run of the season in the seventh inning of Triple-A Iowa’s eventual 16-2 loss to St. Paul at CHS Field.
The roundtripper ties Alcántara -- nicknamed "The Jaguar" -- for the MiLB lead in home runs with Caleb Bonemer (CWS No. 3/MLB No. 53) and James Tibbs III (LAD No. 10).
Alcántara's solo shot served as an exclamation point on a 3-for-4 day at the dish. It came off the bat at 107.1 mph and flew well beyond the wall in right-center field.
The 23-year-old has made plenty of loud contact at Triple-A this year, logging an eye-popping 22.4 percent barrel rate. That would rank sixth-highest in the Majors entering the night and is higher than Shohei Ohtani, Nick Kurtz and other accomplished sluggers.

In addition to the power exploits, the former Top 100 overall prospect extended his season-long hitting streak to seven games. Since that run began on April 24, Alcántara is 10-for-28 (.357) and has tallied five extra-base hits and nine RBIs.
The recent hot stretch is the continuation of what’s been a strong start across the board offensively for the 6-foot-6 outfielder. Through 27 games, he ranks first in the Cubs organization in extra-base hits (17) and second in slugging percentage (.631) and RBIs (24).

Alcántara, who has had a taste of the big leagues each of the past two years, has seen time at all three outfield spots with Iowa. But there isn't currently an opening at the Major League level with Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Matt Shaw and Michael Conforto all healthy.
Still, if Alcántara maintains this level of play, he may force his way into returning to the North Side of Chicago sooner rather than later.
