Left-hander Joey Lucchesi is headed back to the Giants on a Minor League deal with an invite to big league Spring Training, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported Monday. The team has not confirmed the news.
Lucchesi, 32, was a member of the San Francisco bullpen last season, appearing in 38 games and finishing 0-1 with a 3.76 ERA in 38 1/3 innings. In parts of seven MLB seasons with the Padres, Mets and Giants, Lucchesi is 23-27 with a 4.07 ERA in 119 appearances (77 starts).
He primarily offers a four-pitch mix consisting of a sinker, curve, four-seamer and a split-finger. Though he threw the sinker most often last season, the curve was his most effective pitch, with batters hitting just .190 against it. Overall, batters hit .235 against Lucchesi in 2025.
Lucchesi's best season came as a starter with the Padres in 2019, when he finished 10-10 with a 4.18 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 163 2/3 innings.
