LIVE: Red-hot Wiemer vs. Shuster in Double-A clash

May 22nd, 2022

The Minor League Baseball season is heating up, and you can catch some of baseball's most exciting talents for FREE on MLB.com and MLB.TV.

On Sunday at 3:05 p.m. ET, ranked prospects meet in Mississippi, where left-hander Jared Shuster gets the nod on the hill as the Braves host the Biloxi Shuckers, who are led by the Brewers' red-hot No. 2 prospect, Joey Wiemer.

Wiemer, MLB’s No. 94 prospect, is coming off a Prospect Team of the Week selection and is in the midst of his hottest stretch of the season. The 23-year-old crushed five home runs last week at home against Birmingham and belted two more in the first five games of the M-Braves' series in Mississippi this week. He entered Sunday with 11 homers and 10 stolen bases in 38 games, one of just four Minor Leaguers with double digit homers and steals.

The Shuckers' outfield also consists of Milwaukee's Nos. 1 and 3 prospects, their past two first-round Draft picks, Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell, though both have been out of action recently.

Biloxi will be facing one of the Southern League’s most talented arms, southpaw Shuster. Though his record sits at 2-3, Atlanta's No. 9 prospect has been strong on the mound this season, posting a 2.25 ERA through seven starts. That mark sat at 1.53 before Shuster's last time out, when he was lifted after just two-thirds of an inning, having allowed three runs on two hits against the Shuckers. Shuster will look to bounce back against Biloxi's tough lineup on his home mound on Sunday afterenoon.

Select Minor League games will be available to stream for free on MLB.TV this season, meaning you can watch some of the game’s top prospects at no cost. And if you like what you see there, all available Minor League games are streamed on MiLB.TV, and you can add that to an existing MLB.TV subscription for only $25.
