Giants add three players to 40-man roster

The San Francisco Giants announced Tuesday they have selected the contracts of the following players to the 40-man roster: RHP Melvin Adon, RHP Sam Coonrod and RHP Logan Webb.

The San Francisco Giants announced Tuesday they have selected the contracts of the following players to the 40-man roster: RHP Melvin Adon, RHP Sam Coonrod and RHP Logan Webb.
·        Melvin Adon, RHP - The 24-year-old was signed by the Giants as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2015. Entering the 2018 season, his fastball, which has reached as high as 102 mph, was rated the Giants best fastball in the minor leagues by Baseball America. Adon impressed in the Arizona Fall League working as a reliever for the Scottsdale Scorpions, throwing 12.1 innings while striking out 21 batters and allowing just three walks over his 10 appearances.
·        Sam Coonrod, RHP - Drafted by the Giants in fifth round of the 2014 MLB draft, the 26-year-old spent most of the 2018 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander was limited to 10 games, striking out 23 batters in 11.2 innings of work between the Arizona Rookie League Giants and Class A advanced San Jose Giants.
·        Logan Webb, RHP - Webb, the Giants' #4 selection in the 2014 MLB draft, split the 2018 season between Class A advanced San Jose and double-A Richmond combining for a 2.41 ERA (28er, 104.2ip) in 27 games (26 starts). The 2018 California League Mid-Season All-Star, held right-handed batters to a .187 average while recording 72 strikeouts. Webb was ranked the #17 prospect in the Cal League on Baseball America's Top 20 List.
In addition, RHP Julian Fernandez was claimed off waivers by the Miami Marlins yesterday and RHP Chase Johnson cleared waivers and was outrighted to triple-A Sacramento earlier today.
With Tuesday's transactions, the Giants now have 36 players on their 40-man roster.
