Giants Community Fund to celebrate 2019 Junior Giants Willie Mac Award winners with 15th annual luncheon presented by PG&E

Junior Giants players, coaches and team parents honor Willie McCovey’s Legacy

November 14th, 2019

San Francisco, CA -- The Giants Community Fund will host the 15th annual Junior Giants Willie Mac Award Luncheon presented by Pacific Gas and Electric Company on Saturday, November 16th at Oracle Park in recognition of the Junior Giants players, coaches and team parents who were outstanding leaders in their respective communities. Named in honor of the late San Francisco Giants Hall of Famer, Willie McCovey, the award is the Junior Giants version of the annual honor bestowed upon a San Francisco Giants player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership consistently shown by McCovey throughout his career.

The luncheon is an opportunity for the Junior Giants Willie Mac Award winners to receive all-star treatment with photo opportunities, peer recognition and acknowledgement, and the ultimate keepsake – their very own personalized baseball bat with McCovey’s engraved signature. There will be 84 Junior Giants players and 84 coaches and team parents recognized for their exceptional leadership. Junior Giants is a free, noncompetitive, coed baseball and softball program for nearly 24,000 boys and girls throughout California, Oregon and Nevada. Annually, over 5,000 volunteers serve as coaches and team parents.

This year, Giants outfielder and 2019 Willie Mac Award winner Kevin Pillar has a special message for the awardees: “I’m honored to join the Willie McCovey family with the likes of Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner and many other Giants greats,” said Pillar. “It’s a wonderful experience to be honored by my teammates in this way, and I hope the Junior Giants Willie Mac Award winners know how important their leadership and hard work means to their own team. As athletes, we have an obligation to give back to the community; the Junior Giants program is one I embrace and support and I applaud all the winners on their accomplishments this season.”

Special guests will include Giants alumni Mike “Tiny” Felder, Dave Dravecky and Noah Lowry, Giants Mascot Lou Seal and many Community Fund Board members. The event will be emceed by a Giants broadcaster. The Giants Community Fund is grateful for PG&E’s sponsorship of the Junior Giants Willie Mac Award.
