Celebrate Felix's perfecto with a piece of history

To celebrate Felix Hernandez's perfect game on Aug. 15 in Seattle, the Mariners and Major League Baseball invite fans to purchase a piece of history between now and 7 p.m. ET on Aug. 31.

"This does not happen every day," King Felix said after the perfect game. Indeed, it was the first one in Mariners history, coming in their 35th-anniversary season.

Here are examples of the event's authenticated commemorative memorabilia you can find at MLB.com Auction, either for bidding or for direct purchase:

Ball pitched during 11th strikeout: There are six game-used balls pitched by Hernandez up for bidding, and included is this one thrown to pinch-hitter Desmond Jennings to lead off the ninth. It was one of six pitches thrown in that at-bat, and it was fouled back to the screen and promptly removed from the game, authenticated by MLB, given its own hologram, signed by Hernandez with the inscription "P.G. 08-15-12," and auctioned with an opening bid of $600 and $34 bid increments. It was the 11th K, and No. 12 would seal the deal.

Second base: No Rays batters got even as far as first base, so this base was no-man's land for the Rays during the game. Hernandez signed it, and he also signed a third base used that day. One player who did touch second and third, though, was Brendan Ryan, who scored the game's only run on Jesus Montero's RBI single in the third.

Authentic autographed home jersey: Various game-used and signed jerseys are included in the auction, and this one is an authentic that the right-hander signed on the number "4"with the inscription "P.G. 08-15-12." You might want to grab a jersey he actually wore in one of the games leading up to the perfecto.
