Following a weekend in which he hit .615 (8-for-13) with two doubles, two home runs, five RBI, one walk and seven runs scored, Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday. Major League Baseball made the announcement on MLB Network.
Eaton, 29, returned to the Nationals lineup on Opening Day after an 11-month recovery and rehabilitation following left-knee surgery on May 9, 2017. He singled to center field to lead off Friday's contest and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Washington's 2-0 win in the season's opener.
In Saturday's 13-7 triumph, Eaton led the offense, going 5-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and one run scored. It was his first career five-hit game and was just the second time in Nationals history (2005-pres.) that a player recorded at least five hits, with three extra-base hits and three RBI (Also: Anthony Rendon, 4/30/17 vs. NYM).
On Sunday, he singled in the first inning - his sixth consecutive plate appearance with a hit - and clubbed his second home run in as many days. His two-run homer in the seventh inning extended Washington's lead to 5-1. The Nationals eventually completed the sweep, topping the Reds, 6-5.
The Nationals took home three National League Player of the Week awards in 2017: Bryce Harper (April 17-23), Ryan Zimmerman (April 24-30) and Anthony Rendon (July 10-16).
