MILWAUKEE – Barring any last-minute issues, third baseman is expected to be activated Tuesday off the injured list.

“He’s going to hit today in the cage, obviously, then hopefully, barring no setbacks, he should be ready tomorrow,” manager Dave Martinez said Monday.

Rendon was hitting .356 with six homers and 18 RBIs when he went on the injured list April 30 (retroactive to April 27) with a left elbow contusion.

“Anthony’s not just one guy, [he's] a guy that’s in the middle of our lineup,” Martinez said. “Don’t forget his defense. His defense is utterly important for us. He plays unbelievable defense at third base, as well. I’ve said this before, he’s the guy that our lineup revolves around, so getting him back would be huge.”

Outfielder Michael A. Taylor, who injured his left wrist diving for a ball Saturday, entered Monday's game against the Brewers as an injury substitution in the fourth inning for Andrew Stevenson (back spasms).

“He’s better, but he’s going to be day to day,” Martinez said before the game. “He took some swings, very, very light yesterday, not bad, but he’s most definitely going to be day to day.”

The Nationals got good news after an MRI on first baseman , who's on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder strain.

“Just a strain. We got pretty lucky with that one, as well,” Martinez said. “As soon as he can get range of motion, he’ll be starting to swing again and get back into baseball. Hopefully we can get him back soon.”
