ARLINGTON -- Caden Scarborough -- the Rangers’ No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline -- has a right elbow strain and will be shut down for the next four to six weeks, general manager Ross Fenstermaker said on Friday.
Scarborough was in the Rangers’ pitching lab this week looking over some mechanical tweaks and didn’t recover well. They sent him for a scan afterwards, which showed the strain.
“We don't think that it's a major issue at this point,” Fenstermaker said. “I think we caught it early, but it's something that we want to give him the proper amount of rest and give him an opportunity to recover. I think we'll be fine from there.”
It’s been a rough year for Scarborough, who was later to Spring Training after being diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in the offseason. He had surgery on Feb. 2 to remove it and joined the organization in Surprise, Ariz., in late February.
Scarborough, who posted a 2.45 ERA across the Single-A and High-A levels in 2025, finally returned to High-A Hub City on May 15.

Fenstermaker said the Arizona Fall League was initially an option for Scarborough, though everything is to be determined at this point.
Plans for the fall and his continued workload are ongoing as he recovers over the next six weeks.
“We'll revisit our options depending on how he's feeling and what we think is appropriate for the next season,” Fenstermaker. Said. “It's been a tough year, but he's resilient. I think this is unfortunate for him, but he's been able to handle adversity well in the past. We’re very confident that if we caught this early enough, that he'll recover properly and be a full go in 2027, if not in the end of 2026.”
