January 31st, 2021

The baseball community mourned the loss of longtime reporter Mel Antonen on Sunday.

Born in 1956, Antonen was a fixture in the baseball world for more than 35 years. His work included MASN, USA Today, SI.com and MLB Network Radio.

Last year, Antonen chronicled his battle with a rare autoimmune disease and COVID-19. Of baseball in the 2020 season, he wrote, “For me, I’m just glad I’m around to see.”

Antonen’s passing was felt across social media as tweets of remembrance were expressed from fellow reporters to media outlets to the Nationals and Orioles.
