Nationals reinstate Matt Wieters and select the contract of Moisés Sierra

The Washington Nationals recalled from rehab and reinstated catcher Matt Wieters from the 10-day disabled list and selected the contract of outfielder Moisés Sierra on Wednesday. Additionally, they placed outfielder Adam Eaton on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to April 9) with a bone bruise to his left ankle and designated catcher Miguel Montero for assignment. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

The Washington Nationals recalled from rehab and reinstated catcher Matt Wieters from the 10-day disabled list and selected the contract of outfielder Moisés Sierra on Wednesday. Additionally, they placed outfielder Adam Eaton on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to April 9) with a bone bruise to his left ankle and designated catcher Miguel Montero for assignment. Wieters, 31, returns to the active roster after missing eight games with a mild left oblique strain. Prior to his injury, he appeared in two games, going 1-for-7 with two walks and one run scored.
 
Sierra, 29, was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training. Sierra put together a strong spring, hitting .321 (17-for-53) with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs scored in 30 Grapefruit League games. Prior to joining the Nationals, he went 4-for-12 (.333) with one RBI, four walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored in four games for Triple-A Syracuse this season.
 
Eaton, 29, appeared in eight games for Washington, hitting .345 with a .424 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging percentage. He was named National League Player of the Week after a strong opening weekend against the Cincinnati Reds.
 
Montero, 34, made the club after entering Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. In four games with Washington, he went 0-for-11 with two walks.
