Ramon Marquez had a rhythm from the second he took the mound Friday.

The Phillies’ No. 9 prospect struck out five straight hitters to start his outing in High-A Jersey Shore’s 1-0 six-inning loss to Rome at ShoreTown Ballpark. The right-hander allowed just one run on two hits in five strong innings.

Marquez racked up nine strikeouts with an impressive 18 swings-and-misses in the process. The punchout total tied for his career high, which he recorded for the fourth time this season, having done so in consecutive starts on May 9 and May 16, and again on June 5 for Single-A Clearwater.

Marquez has logged 20 strikeouts to just six walks in 15 innings across three starts since his promotion from Clearwater, where the 20-year-old started the year with a 1.86 ERA in 29 innings. His impact at the level was felt immediately upon arrival with five no-hit innings in his High-A debut on June 19.

Philadelphia has moved the starter through three levels so far since he joined the organization as an international free agent with just a $10,000 signing bonus prior to the 2025 season.

Marquez's ability to miss bats is an early encouraging trend with 139 strikeouts to just 33 walks in his first 99 innings as a professional.
