Phillies, Asplundh and PHS unload trees for community tree planting
The Phanatic’s showing off his green thumb! On Thursday, the Phillie Phanatic made a visit to Roxborough to help Asplundh and Pennsylvania Horticultural Society volunteers unload and distribute over 1,100 trees to PHS Tree Tender groups, community organizations and neighborhood volunteers in preparation for the weekend’s city-wide tree planting.
Among the distributed trees, some were tagged with the names of the Phillies top home run hitters this past season, as part of the Phillies Home Runs for Trees program in partnership with PHS and supported by Asplundh. For each home run hit by a Phillies payer, a tree is planted in the Greater Philadelphia area. More than 2,400 trees have been planted through this partnership since the program began.
This semi-annual tree planting, led by PHS, creates and enhances the tree canopy in neighborhoods across the Philadelphia region to promote healthier, greener communities. Asplundh volunteers will also be participating in the weekend’s tree planting.
